New Years Eve Pt 2

Friday, January 1, 2010 at 4:29 PM

Needless to say, New Years Eve was as many others before. We all went out to Grange Con to my sisters place and then to the pub for the rest of night.

After nearly breaking my ass on the icey roads we got there and despite the recession there was a good crowd and a great night was had. There was a bit too much whiskey going around but i did my best to finish what was put in front of me :)

As we left the pub is had snowed, the village looked great at it looked like a classic christmas photo.
After going back to my sisters we finally got home at 4am.

New years Eve

Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 2:44 PM

Last day of an eventful year but all in all, a good one. I went down to the town for a full Irish breakfast this morning. Very nice it was too it was a shame a crowd of chavs came in with their little b...... i mean kid. Never shut up and running around all the time. I will never understand how people can bring their kid into a pub.
Regardless breakfast was lovely and had more proper coffee other than the Starbucks i live on in HK.
Im looking forward to tonight but to be honest i would rather be in Hong Kong for the countdown and the fireworks.
Still though, it should be good tonight, going to a small pub in Grange Con for the night, its a family tradition now. Proper country pub, trad music etc, should be good.

Saint Stephen's Day

Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 10:57 PM
As per the family tradition, we all go out to my sisters place in Grange Con, Wicklow for dinner. It is basically the same again but in my sisters house, eating and drinking although today i couldn't drink as i was the designated driver that evening.
Dinner was great and after that it was my job to help Amanda set up her new laptop, god when i was her age i think i got a bike and was delighted with it.
Looking around Valeries house made me miss my own a little, the nice big kitchen and living room. Most of all i miss the silence of the place, how quiet the irish countryside is in the evening. No neighbours to listen to, nobody walking around upstairs at 2 in the morning, i kid you not!
When we left for home it was 4 degrees outside and still the roads were frozen, such a job it was to get home as the car was all over the place.
The road from Baltinglass to Grange Con has to be one of the worst in ireland, this did not help.
There were a few pics taken, as soon as i get them from my sis i will put them on here.
Already, christmas is over and the new year is around the corner, time is going so fast, soon i will be packing again! :(

Christmas Day

Friday, December 25, 2009 at 11:33 PM
Christmas day was just like every other one i've ever had and that it a good thing. My mother always insists that diner is at the house, no matter how my sister tries to have it at hers.
As per the custom i go with my father after breakfast into next door for the usual whisky before Valerie, Martin and the girls arrive. Its usually my job to make sure my dad comes back in time for dinner and doesn't drink too much.
Dinner was lovely and mum did a great job as usual, i have been looking forward to christmas dinner for months and believe me it was well worth the wait.
Needless to say i spent the rest of the day on the couch feeling very full. We all went up to Brendan's grave and said a few prayers, not something I'm used to.
The usual soaps were on tv with all the drama of their horrible christmas days but thankfully ours was much nicer.
Shame it rained as mum was looking forward to a white christmas.
I cant believe how much i (and everyone else) ate but i suppose its once a year.
Well apart from tomorrow which will be the same thing but this time in Valerie's place!
I saw Tesha's pics on Facebook of her day and it was great to see she wasn't alone. I wish i could have spent the day with her but next year it will happen.
We will just have to spend the year buying enough warm clothes for her to survive ireland. :)

Calling to neighbours

Thursday, December 24, 2009 at 2:12 PM
It was really nice calling to my neighbors this morning and good to hear that all is well. The kids have really grown up since i saw them last. It was hard looking at my old house with a new car in the drive but at least it is rented now and not vacant any more.
Things haven't really changed in the estate and not many people seem to have moved out. That bloody dog on the other side is still barking. From what i hear from my neighbours, the people in my old house are very nice and looking after the place. I would hate to have a shower of knackers in there destroying what was my home.
It will be good to call around there again before i go home for a few drinks.
The last of the shopping was done today, its really hard to get anywhere as the weather is so cold. My nieces Amanda and Louise were today too, i had to find a website for them,
"santa tracker.com", pretty much shows where he is at the moment. When i was that age i would have loved that. Louise really did.
Another day of my holiday over and still missing Tesh.

Visit to Dublin

Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 4:41 PM
It was strange driving up to Dublin again. The traffic is so much lighter now that the construction industry is as good as dead, no horrible sand trucks!
Dublin is much the same and surprise surprise the M50 upgrade is still not finished, who knew?
Calling into my old employer was strange, much smaller now and not too busy. Most are part time now except for the "monkeyboy" but that is no surprise really. Some people reading this will know who that is, maybe including the "monkeyboy too"! If his interest in my flickr page is anything to go by.
Anyway, that aside, it was great meeting my pal E again, always a great laugh! Memories and the odd rant always get rid of the recession blues, eh E?
Im missing my Tez the more i am here but you cant have everything i suppose.
Shopping in Dublin never happened though as the traffic was crap, some things never change!
Got home early before it was dark and a rest is in order from the drive, hard to believe i did that 5 days a week before.
